Education for Educators
Current Topics for Educators:
This class highlights today’s current topics for educators of infants through kindergarteners from one of our highly qualified Speech Language Pathologists and Occupational Therapists. Over the 2 ½ hour class teachers will learn how to identify children in need of support, public resources available, and current therapies. Topics tailored to your school can include: fine motor skills, feeding difficulties, sensory processing disorder, red flags for Autism Spectrum Disorder, and cultural differences with English Language Learners. Time for Q&A with therapists. Each participant will receive handouts with resources and a Continuing Education certificate.
We come to your classroom and work directly with your teachers and students. Our therapist can create Sensory Spaces within the classroom for children with Autism and Sensory Processing Disorders, review Handwriting Without Tears with Teachers, work directly with teachers who need additional hands-on training and help create or implement programs in your school. You will consult with a Therapist prior to the visit to plan your specific needs.
Individual School Screenings:
Little Hands Pediatric Therapy provides Developmental Screenings for children ages 1-10 years including: Speech & Language, Fine & Gross Motor, Sensory Processing, Visual Motor Integration. We conduct the screenings during the child’s class time in a quiet room and will need access to a copy machine to provide results to the school and parents.
Sign Language Education Workshop:
Administrators and Teachers of infants through 2’s classes will learn over 75 signs and how to build a solid foundation for language development during our 2 1/2 hour class. Through hands-on activities, teachers will leave feeling confident to incorporate American Sign Language (ASL) into their classroom and to provide support for parents at home. The strategies discussed in this training will help educators teach children with delays and will also benefit their typically developing peers. Kelli Atangan, owner of Little Hands Pediatric Therapy, Speech Language Pathologist and Gallaudet University graduate, leads the Sign Language Education Workshops. Materials for your use and distribution include: editable resources for teachers to send home to parents, developmental milestones, tips for using ASL, activities, photographs of signs, song and book suggestions and attendance certificates.
